Northbrook

Finished rooms for Northbrook homes, from people who answer the phone.

Northbrook's postwar ranches, split-levels and two-stories are ready for kitchens, baths and layouts that fit how you live now. Ascendesign plans and builds with one team — and only puts crews on your job that we've vetted.

Building here

Housing stock: Northbrook is a North Shore-area village west of Glencoe, known as Shermerville until it was renamed in 1923. Much of its housing is post-World War II single-family homes — ranches, split-levels and two-story colonials — plus newer construction. [CONFIRM details]

Typical projects: Kitchen and bath remodels, whole-home renovations, basement finishing, integrated technology. [PLACEHOLDER — confirm]

Permitting: Permits here are issued by the Village of Northbrook (Development & Planning Services). Contractors of record on a Northbrook building permit — general, electrical, sewer, concrete/pavement and landscape contractors — must hold a current Village contractor license, plumbers must provide an Illinois 055 registration, and a Contractor of Record form must be completed before the permit is issued. We handle permit applications and inspection scheduling as part of the project. [CONFIRM current requirements with the department before each job]

Questions we hear

Does Northbrook require a contractor license?

Yes. Northbrook requires general, electrical, sewer, concrete and landscape contractors on a permit to hold a current Village contractor license, and the Contractor of Record form must be complete before the permit is issued. We handle both.

Who pulls the permits?

We pull the required permits for work we contract and coordinate inspections.

How do you choose the crews who work on my home?

We vet every contractor. Some jobs take 60–80 bids because many don't call back, don't show up, aren't insured, or are booked months out. We screen for insurance before anyone is put on your project.
