Oak Park

Oak Park homes, renovated with respect for what makes them special.

Oak Park's Prairie School homes, Victorians, bungalows and two-flats deserve a team that knows old houses. Ascendesign brings design and build together — with crews we've already vetted.

Building here

Housing stock: Oak Park, just west of Chicago, has the world's largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright-designed buildings, and much of its housing is late-19th- and early-20th-century: Victorians, Prairie School homes, bungalows, two-flats and courtyard apartment buildings. Large areas fall within local and National Register historic districts, including the Frank Lloyd Wright–Prairie School of Architecture Historic District. [CONFIRM district boundaries for each project]

Typical projects: Kitchen and bath remodels, whole-home renovations, basement finishing, integrated technology. [PLACEHOLDER — confirm]

Permitting: Permits here are issued by the Village of Oak Park (Development Customer Services / Permit Center). Contractors must register with the Village electronically through the CityView Portal before a building permit is issued — registration is valid for one year and requires business, license and insurance information. Exterior work on properties in historic districts may also need Historic Preservation Commission review. [CONFIRM per project] We handle permit applications and inspection scheduling as part of the project. [CONFIRM current requirements with the department before each job]

Questions we hear

Do contractors have to register in Oak Park?

Yes. Oak Park requires contractors to register with the Village before a building permit is issued; registration is renewed yearly. We confirm every trade is registered, and we check whether your home's historic-district status affects the work.

Who pulls the permits?

We pull the required permits for work we contract and coordinate inspections.

How do you choose the crews who work on my home?

We vet every contractor. Some jobs take 60–80 bids because many don't call back, don't show up, aren't insured, or are booked months out. We screen for insurance before anyone is put on your project.
